This is so prescient given I have been thinking about the industrial rankings complex for corporate jobs. Why am I supposed to strive for going above and beyond? What is wrong with meeting expectations? That is all we need to do: meet expectations, and then our jobs will do the same, meet expectations with paying us and not laying us off. What a true win when that happens
the (Fantastic) Four Freedoms Project is such a perfect container for the suite of policies and programs that anyone running for office on the left can get behind...it works at the local, state, & federal levels.
HEALTH
Personal, public, & environmental health are all inextricably linked. The foods we eat, the air we breathe, the water we drink, & the communities in which we live & work affect our well being. Health freedom encompasses universal health care, community investment, & environmental restoration.
HOUSING (Habitat)
It's really housing and transportation because getting around is part and parcel of how and where we live. This means building housing at scale through state action & investing in the operations & expansion of transit systems to improve connection both within & between regions.
EDUCATION
Our kids must be free to learn so they may become full adults and adults must have the opportunity to learn throughout their lives. Learning about the world shouldn't involve going into debt or throwing yourself into penury.
EMPLOYMENT
It's not so much "a job" but really economic freedom to resist bad bosses, unsafe work, and precarious conditions. Having health care, housing, and education wrapped up is a critical part of it all.
totally agree with these - and can I also suggest a new way of thinking about human rights/freedoms (although I'm increasingly thinking we should avoid referring to 'freedom' which is so mis-used), which is less absolutist and more balanced/ dependant on context and bona fides? I think that's what's missing for our generation (I'm an Old Millennial) is a sense of moral ambition. Ambition not to achieve or to enjoy, but to do what's right in our public and private lives. Most of the people that I know are highly moral, but they don't have a language to talk about it--and I think most liberals come to their politics from a strong sense of right and wrong, but Democratic politics has lost that language. That moral dimension of politics is what new political leaders need to capture in order to be effective.

Lots to think about
These musings on ambition are very interesting.

Be more like Amanda Litman and less like TPUSA women!
I believe that the basic truth is that Donald Trump just really, really hates America. He has never been able to get the ‘respect’ he thinks he deserves. He’s not out to make America great again. He’s out to make America grovel at his feet. https://open.substack.com/pub/jonthinks/p/donald-trump-hates-america?r=mrvx1&utm_medium=ios
